February 11th is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. To mark this day, research centers and universities were invited by the Spanish Neuroscience Association to organize a symposium. Twenty-five centers in Spain participated in the event, with the intent of giving visibility to the existing problem of the scarcity of women compared with men in (neuro)science in positions of responsibility and command. Fourteen neuroscientists, all staff members of the University of Valencia, arranged the meeting. This research intends to open a global debate on the current strong link between migration and prostitution on the basis of the reality observed in Palermo in the timespan 2015-2017. The main three elements emerging from the analysis are criminality, poverty and exploitation. As data suggests, Italy is the favorite destination of the Nigerian sexual exploitation market. By paying attention to the complexities of the issue of sex trafficking in Europe, the paper critically analyzes the feminist debate on sex trafficking, articulated from the «abolitionist» and «sex workers’ rights» perspectives. The article examines the limits of the current feminist interpretations of sex trafficking developed around the «victimhood» versus «agency» dichotomy in relation to prostitution, and explores other possible spaces for a feminist critique of sex trafficking in Europe.
